My favorite passage in Also Sprach Zarathrustra (Thus Spake Zarathrustra), where a man is between two towers (representing the human in the general herd and the superman). What are you doing here between two towers the goader asks, prompting the man to jump to the second tower. It's a metaphor of Nietsche's idea of the superman (Ubermensch). Nietsche is quite an amazing writer who can at the same time describe a scene and pick words in German to sound like the huffing and puffing of someone climbing up a mountain. He is a linguistic genius. |
