Larger Than Us

How much larger

life is

than any one

those who would rule

are ruled

those who are ruled

would rule

the time

is never the present

but always a vestige of the past

or an inkling of the future

what we are

and who we are

is not what we were

nor what we shall be

the sum total

of all that we have planned

is a plan unplanned

is a life

never thought of

is a world

never expected
